EAGERLY PREACHING TO THE EAGERLY APPROVING (Romans 1:32)

Click here for audio Pastor Tim’s Translation - “…who, while knowing full well the righteous ruling of God (that those who practice such things are worthy of death), not only are doing these things but are also enthusiastically approving those who practice them.” The book of Romans is known as Paul’s systematic treatment of the gospel over sixteen chapters. Chapters 1-11 lay out an intensive exploration of the teachings of salvation. Chapters 12-16 expound the practical living that results from a correct, Spirit-applied understanding of the teaching in chapters 1-11. All of this is packaged neatly as a missionary letter. I say it is a missionary letter, because (first), Paul says in 1:8-15 that he is longing to get to Rome in order to preach the gospel to them and help them in their understanding of the teachings of salvation.   The nature of the atonement: propitiation, redemption, and reconciliation ACCOMPLISHED on the cross at Calvary. The Scripture presents Christ’s work as complete. Having examined the nature of the atonement, we should next ask about the scope of the atonement: For whom did Christ die as a substitute? The majority of texts speak in a limited way (cf. for example Mark 10:45; John 10:15; Rom 5:15, 19; etc.), though there are a handful of texts that could be understood universally (cf. 1 Tim 2:2-4; 2 Pet 2:1; 1 John 2:2).
